¡®Cine Symphony ¡¯section introduces films of various genres dealing in music and musicians, and contemporary feature films which uses music as a key factor in story development. Once again, twelve films with entertaining and heartwarming qualities from twelve countries around the world will be showcased in this section. From the Argentine La Antena reminiscent of the silent film era, the Japanese omnibus film Tokyo Rhapsody inspired by Japan¡¯s popular songs, the super-sexy Bossa Nova-rhythm-packed Out of Tune to Piano, Solo which portrays the Italian Jazz piano genius, Luca
Flores¡¯life, various films of diverse genres and subject matters await the audience in this section.

 

La Antena

The year is XX and an expressionless metropolis has fallen under the spell of the cunning villain Mr. TV. He has stolen the public¡¯s voice and now monitors every aspect of their lives. Meanwhile, he¡¯s working on a machine that will use television to grant him total control over people¡¯s minds. To succeed with this scheme, Mr. TV must first kidnap the last person who still has ¡®The Voice¡¯. Inspired by silent film and German expressionism, La Antena is an aesthetic masterpiece. Amin, a young architect who lives in Paris, returns suddenly to Fès, Morocco where his uncle is dying. He did not speak to the man who brought him up since he left his hometown Fès ten years earlier to study and settle in Paris. The visits of the young architect at the hospital revive the deep wounds of his painful childhood. His long-time friend, the craftsman Aziz, exhorts him not to surrender to the resentment of the past. The uncle¡¯s death does not soothe the young man¡¯s agonies forcing him to find his own answers within his soul.

An audience-pleasing riff on the dirty underbelly of the American Idol phenomenon, Great World of Sound stars Pat Healy and Kene Holliday as Martin and Clarence, two normal southern guys who get caught up in the excitement of a record industry talent scouting scheme. Real people performed in the audition scenes without knowing it was actually a film shoot. With hidden cameras, the interaction was recorded between the lead actors and the unsuspecting musicians. This documentary-style process was integrated into the final narrative, creating a unique blend of fact and fiction.
